Ecological degradation and climate change are possibly the largest and most complex problems facing humanity today. To meet such formidable challenges, our students must develop new habits of mind that break free of traditional disciplinary thinking and embrace a systems-based, ecological approach to the world. Our students’ futures depend on a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of ecological, economic and cultural systems.

Students learn as much outside of the classroom as they do through the formal curriculum. Connecting the two provides an authentic educational experience and promotes learning that will endure over time. Given their human and financial resources as well as the independence to implement new and creative initiatives, independent schools have a unique opportunity to address climate change and to model stewardship of natural resources and the environment.
