What We Do
Stone Bridge addresses how schools’ physical campuses can become integral components of their curricular mission. Using ecological principles as a guide, Stone Bridge helps schools take full advantage of the opportunities afforded by their place. A school’s place is defined by its interconnected ecological, economic and cultural systems. Stone Bridge views sustainability opportunities through a wide lens to ensure that the school serves current students responsibly without compromising the needs of future generations or of the community within which the school exists. We take the larger concept of sustainability and break it down into six interconnected and interdependent realms:
- Land and Water Management
- Energy and Green Building
- Procurement and Waste Streams - Material Through-put (including food)
- Community Partnerships and Town/Gown Relationships
- Curricular Development - Experiential Education
- Economic Sustainability - Development and Fundraising
"The planetary emergency unfolding around us is, first and foremost a crisis of thought, values, perception, ideas and judgment. In other words, it is a crisis of mind, which makes it a crisis of those institutions which purport to improve minds."
- David Orr, Professor of Environmental Studies, Oberlin College
